Jon Turgel, Senior Vice President, Commercial Relationship Manager

With a 25-year tenure in the financial services industry, Jon Turgel joins the Bank as a commercial banking expert. His ongoing partnerships and proximity to entrepreneurs in New Braunfels and along the I-35 corridor result in mutual expression of entrepreneurial energy.

Originally from Maryland and now residing in Seguin, and enjoying growing relationships in Texas, Jon’s passion for supporting business growth through building dedicated relationships has been the common thread woven throughout his career. Jon is inspired by the people and the growth of central Texas. He considers his work his true passion as he strives to partner with business owners to grow and scale. He shares his career background and expertise, his new role at the bank, and what he enjoys most about Texas.

What is your experience and career background?

I first started my banking career as a mortgage loan officer over 25 years ago. I then became a wholesale mortgage account executive for Lehman Brothers, until 2007 and 2008, when the mortgage crisis hit. This led me to change paths, and I went into retail banking. I ran a branch for a large community bank in Maryland. For the past nine years, I was a relationship manager, building relationships with businesses and their founders.

What is your specialty professionally, and how do you serve your clients through your position at Texas Partners Bank?

Building long-term relationships is my passion. If I were to pick a specialty, I would say SBA lending. Having the privilege of being in a new territory and serving our clients consists of daily outreach into the community—involvement in networking and community events, as well as old-fashioned door knocking and cold calling. My goal is to let our community know who we are, that we serve New Braunfels, and that we look forward to building long-term relationships.

What are your activities and hobbies outside of work?

Getting out on weekends and going to a different new town is something my wife and I love to do. We pick a town, then spend the day walking around, speaking with people, window shopping, and always trying the local restaurants and popular spots.

Which community organizations are you involved with?

I love the chamber and was on the board of my local chamber for many years in Maryland. Interacting and building relationships with local business owners is one of my favorite parts about what we do. Assisting local businesses and building relationships not only impacts the business owner, but its employees and our community. I am looking forward to being very involved with the New Braunfels chamber.

What inspires you about working in the I-35 corridor and the growth areas of central Texas?

Opportunity is what inspires me about the growth areas, not only in and around I-35, but in New Braunfels, which is on the list of the top 10 fastest-growing areas in the US. This growth brings a mix of businesses and industry types: startups, and companies expanding, relocating, and in growth mode. All are opportunities for great conversations and opportunities to provide solutions.

Which of our Texas Partners Bank values resonates most with you in your work, and why?

Integrity. Building relationships is based on trust and doing what is right, and it all starts with integrity.
